In 2008, a dedicated group of Refuge volunteers and FOAR members created the Outdoor Work Team to volunteer for Refuge projects. After Hurricane Ike struck the refuge in 2008, many of the projects dealt with clearing debris and habitat restoration. These projects will continue to improve habitat on the refuge and could not be completed effectively without the help of volunteers. People from the local community and schools work with those coming from as far a Houston and Beaumont to help the refuge work on projects. Most projects are completed in half a day which is followed by lunch provided by FOAR. Check out our Volunteer page to get involved. Check out a schedule of upcoming work days in the spring and fall and some photos from projects we have completed or continue to work on.
